How to Give

Information for new and current givers

We are grateful to God for everyone who gives financially towards the work of Wessex Christian Fellowship. We are convinced God wants his people to be generous and joyful givers; we also want to make it easy for you, so this page explains how you can give.

Online Giving

We encourage and teach people to give regularly to the local church, with tithing as a guideline (a tithe is a tenth of your income). This is primarily used to pay our staff, run the building and many of our church activities.

You may choose to give your tithe by:

  • Internet banking  (Sort Code 40 09 26, Account No. 51611658)
  • Standing order form (click to download)
  • If giving by internet banking, or standing order, please quote your name and the word “tithe” in the reference field
  • Cheque or cash into the offering bowl. Please mark clearly as tithe (or regular giving) so that we can allocate it properly.

Offerings

In addition to the regular giving, an offering is taken each Sunday. Sometimes we take offering for a specific purpose or project. We announce the purpose of the offering – it may be for a project within the church (eg the Alpha Course), for our work overseas or for other needs in the UK or abroad. Once or twice a year we may have a special offering for major projects.

Practical tips

  • Cheques should be made payable to “Wessex Christian Fellowship” - regardless of what the offering is for
  • If you tithe by cheque, please write “Tithe” on the back of your cheque
  • If you tithe with cash, please use one of the Giving Envelopes available from stewards, ticking the tithe box. If you put cash or cheques into the offering bowl we will assume it is for that week’s offering, unless it is marked otherwise
  • If you are giving cash and have completed or intend to complete a Gift Aid form, please use one of the envelopes from the table in the foyer, marking it with your name and ticking the tithe or offering box. This will enable us to reclaim the tax – see below

Gift Aid

If you are a UK taxpayer, the church can claim the tax you have paid on any gift, however large or small, whether a one-off gift or a regular donation. This costs you nothing but increases the value of all your gifts by a huge 25%.

  • This costs you nothing and involves a simple Gift Aid declaration, which only has to be signed once, regardless of the amount of payments made under this scheme. Click here to download the form – or complete the form on the back of a Giving Envelope
  • You only need to make one Gift Aid declaration
  • Each gift you make must be identifiable to you personally. Cash gifts can be identified by using one of our Giving Envelopes
  • If your husband or wife is also a tax payer and giving they will need to make their own Gift Aid declaration
  • A Gift Aid declaration can be completed retrospectively as long as your donation can be identified
  • There are also benefits for some individuals, eg higher rate taxpayers or those claiming Child Tax Credit
